The 2017 iRacing Road Pro series ended with two Positive SimRacing drivers in the top 10 of the standings: Tommy Ostgaard finished in second position, and Ricardo Orozco in P6. These two drivers will join Daniel Bida in the 2018 edition of the iRacing World Championship Grand Prix Series.
If only the last 8 rounds of the championship would be considered, the drivers’ standings would show Tommy Ostgaard in first position (1720 points) and Ricardo Orozco in second position (1709), which evidences the strength of PSR during the championship. Indeed, Tommy was very consistent in all rounds, clinching two podiums (P3 in the round 4, and P2 in the round 8) and having good aspirations to the title, despite severe hardware problems, including a broken steering wheel that he had to use in the round 9.
On the other hand, the beginnings were very difficult for Ricardo: After the round 2, he was in P57, with a gap of approx 350 points with the top 10. Nevertheless, Ricardo exhibited a real champion mindset and clinched two consecutive P4 in the next two rounds. He progressively gained positions in the standings, with no margin for another DNF, to finally clinch a brilliant P6 in the championship. He put the cap on the championship with a podium in the last race.
There was another different history for the Spanish driver Jorge Montañés. Despite some excellent Q sessions, Jorge however couldn’t complete a good championship, mainly because unavoidable incidents, such as the one occurred in Imola, when he was racing in the top 10. Jorge had a difficult start of the championship, and despite the incidents, he managed to finish close to the top 10 or even in the top 10 in every race, until round 8. However, the unfortunate results in rounds 8 and 9 placed Jorge in P17, which was a disappointing result, considering his pace.
This was the first participation for Matteo Calestani with PSR in the Pro Series. The main objective was to gain experience for the future, but Matteo showed a competitive pace with good results, being close to the top 10 in several rounds and finishing in the top 20. Manuel Domingo and Reinaldo Augusto completed the PSR participation in the championship, with eventual participations in some races.
The team is very satisfied, not only for the result, be better if Jorge would have had less incidents, but mainly for the work done and the spirit of overcoming al the difficulties in the first rounds.
